Anschutz means quality

Anschütz offers top quality. It’s almost like stating the obvious, but Anschütz certainly does justice to the proverbial German quality. Anschütz has been around as an arms manufacturer for more than one and a half century and this fact alone tells you they’re offering something worthwhile. In fact, with such an amount of knowledge and experience, they’re at the top of their game.

For a long time, Anschütz has been very traditional in their approach to gun making. They still are in some sense, as craftmanship still plays a very big part in the very modern production facility. Even though computer-controlled machinery -like CNC machines- is now inevitably part of the process, every part is checked and assembled by hand and all Anschütz rifles are set-up, checked and adjusted by craftspeople. Anschütz definitely isn’t a batch manufacturer, the attention that goes to each and every rifle ensures you really get the best there is.

This is what Anschütz offers

Anschütz produces both firearms and air rifles. Almost all of their air rifles are purpose built for sport shooting disciplines like 10 metres, Benchrest and Field Target for example. But some of their extremely accurate air rifles are also used for hunting.

Of the firearms that Anschütz makes, the ones that everybody knows are from watching biathlon Olympics, where advanced Anschütz .22 LR rifles are used. But Anschütz is also used in the Olympic 50 metres discipline and many other sport shooting disciplines. The amount of development that goes into such rifles is immense. For example: even at -20 degrees Celsius, Anschütz rifles should be absolutely accurate and on top of that, they should be able to stand rough handling. For this, a lot of research goes into materials, metal alloys, manufacturing methods, et cetera. Anschütz rifles are very refined, did you know a trigger can consist of more than fifty parts? And that Anschütz even produces ultra-smooth triggers with ball bearings on the main axle?

It’s good to know the gained knowledge and experience in sport shooting, is also used in the development of regular rifles. Anschütz produces both small calibre and big bore rifles and while their main focus lies on sport shooting rifles, the German brand also manufacture greatly accurate hunting rifles. They’re very refined in engineering for the best accuracy. With uses such as biathlon and hunting, an Anschütz rifle needs to be able to withstand quite a lot: big temperature changes, bumping and falling, dirt and water. That’s why Anschütz makes a big effort to ensure durability. Of course, they use the best materials available, but they also have to make sure even their most refined constructions are robust too. The challenging combination of small tolerances for the highest possible accuracy, combined with robustness and reliability is what makes Anschütz stand out with a quality that not many others can match.

Where your Anschütz is made

Anschütz is situated in the German town of Ulm, with facilities in the USA and Canada too, but this wasn’t always the case. The arms manufacturer originally came to existence in the town of Zella-Mehlis, where Julies Gottfried Anschütz set up his company in 1856. Zella-Mehlis is known to be the place where many well-known arms manufacturers found their origin, such as Walther and Weihrauch. However, after World War II (in 1945) Zella-Mehlis, that lies in county Thüringen, fell under the communistic regime (East Germany), resulting in the factory with 550 workers being disowned and dismantled.

After fleeing to West Germany, a restart followed in 1950, where Anschütz set up shop with seven workers and twenty machines. They grew to be the respectable rifle manufacturer they are today. Anschütz has a solid reputation in sport shooting and is highly regarded for accuracy in their hunting rifles. For a long time, their slogan was: ‘Die meister macher’. Which means ‘The champion maker’. However, it could also be translated as ‘The master maker’, which could come across a bit self-centred. Their slogan was revamped into: ‘Einfach eins werden’, which means ‘Just to become number one’.
