Détails

The Caldwell VelociRadar chronograph offers exactly what professional (long-distance) shooters are looking for; highly accurate and consistent velocity measurements. Different from chronographs that use doppler-radar, this VelociRadar uses Chirp radar technology. Doppler functions by transmitting microwaves in short pulses, whereas Chirp functions through pulse compressions. This means the Chirp radar sends out several different frequencies with each pulse, resulting in a stack of returning echoes. This provides a much more accurate velocity measurement, which means you can use the Caldwell VelociRadar chronograph to measure velocities much more accurately. Add to that the fact that it calculates the ballistic coefficient over the entire length of the range. It even calculates the muzzle velocity with an accuracy of 0.1%.

Recoil-activated trigger
The VelociRadar is capable of measuring projectile velocities accurately and displaying them, thanks to the efficient Chirp radar technology. He does so with each shot, as he hears it. In order to prevent suppressed shots or shots in an encloses space from being missed or being registered inconsistently, the Caldwell VelociRadar chronograph comes supplied with a recoil-activated sensor. That sensor can be mounted onto the rifle, after which the chronograph will use the recoil to indicate it needs to start measuring. This means you can use the chronograph to measure velocities of projectiles that are shot with a suppressed rifle, as well.

Ease of use
The VelociRadar chronograph by Caldwell can easily be set up right next to your rifle, thanks to the ball-head tripod that comes with it. This means you won’t have to set up the chronograph downrange or something like that, to get accurate measurements. This means you can change settings as you see fit, even halfway through your current session. All registered data is shown on the 2.8’’ colour display, which can clearly be read. The menu is very well-organised, which allows you to easily navigate it and use all the options it offers to the fullest. Additionally, you can connect the Caldwell VelociRadar chronograph to the Caldwell app. This means the chronograph can easily be adjusted through your smartphone and you can change the settings at a distance. You can save up to 100 sessions and each session consists of an impressive 100 shots.

Housing
The VelociRadar chronograph is an innovative piece of technology and it is pretty clear that Caldwell was aiming for absolute accuracy. They had to use a relatively large antennae and the chronograph has a decent size. The housing is made entirely of synthetic material and it has a discreet green colour. This chronograph features a built-in, rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Please note: the VelociRadar performs best when used outdoors. Indoor conditions cause measurement deviations and make it less accurate.

Please note: the VelociRadar does not work with low-energy airguns. The power they produce is not enough to trigger the activation of the chronograph.
